Following the success of their last single, ‘Flesh & Blood’, Scottish synth-pop trio OK Button have announced the release of ‘Grenade’.
Lines such as “I will stand my ground” set the clear themes in the exploration of strength and when combined with a bewitching vocal delivery and otherworldly production, the listener is taken to an alternative galaxy of delight. The song manages to feel both refreshing and timeless in equal measure.
Amber Wilson, Nass Donald and Adam Falkner are the musicians behind the moniker boasting notable past projects. Having met in a Scottish-based underground music venue, the band was born out of a chance meeting. Amber was performing an acoustic set in her native Aberdeen when Adam fortuitously stumbled upon her gig. The two formed a friendship and began sharing song ideas over email. The process served as a welcome escapism from the loneliness of being on the road with their respective musical projects – Amber as vocalist with Bombay Bicycle Club and Morcheeba, and Adam as a drummer for One Eskimo and Babyshambles.
The duo teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Nass and writer/producer Craigie Dodds (Amy Winehouse, Gorillaz, Sugababes) and thus the outfit’s dark electronic, synth-pop sound was born.
Amber explains: “Grenade is about finding the strength to leave a destructive relationship. It’s a battle between head and heart; whether to fight for love and respect or to keep repeating destructive patterns because they’re familiar. We wanted Grenade to sonically match the toughness of the subject matter so went for a grittier vibe on this track which we love.”
OK Button will play two showcases at this year’s The Great Escape festival.
Beguiling to behold, ‘Grenade’ continues to illustrate that the 3-piece are a talent impossible to ignore.
